The Rose and Crown Hotel is a historic coaching inn standing proudly in the Market Place of Wisbech, sometimes known as the "Capital of the Fens." Parts of the building date back to the 15th century. Today this creeper-clad imposing house has real history inside and remains town's main social-and accommodation hub offering an essentially traditional English inn experience with narrow corridors bending here and there over creaking oak floorboards; accommodation ranges from rooms full of period features within the main building itself to more modern units found out in a garden wing. With its own popular bar-restaurant onsite plus large function room upstairs above all that genuine old-world atmosphere going spare it suits well both history lovers down on business up in/the Fens or wedding guests who happen(by preference)to like their property central laden heavy real character.

  • Perfect central location in the town square with all local attractions nearby.
  • Full of history and character, a stay here is like stepping back in time.
  • Big free car park at the rear, which is an added bonus in the town center.
  • Staff are often described as friendly, local and accommodating.
  • Hearty traditional food and local ales served in the restaurant and bar onsite.
  • × That means very old building, no elevator(lift) and lots of stairs which is poor accessibility.
  • × Access to the car park is through an extremely narrow archway that can be nerve-wracking for wide vehicles.
  • × Some rooms are dated and can be noisy due to creaky floorboards or thin walls.
  • × Wi-Fi signal can be patchy in the furthest wings of the building due to thick historic walls.

Full Review - The Rose and Crown Hotel

  • Worth the Cost Good value. A unique environment with full services at a reasonable rate. Historic hotel in a market town.
  • Service Experience Warm and personable service. Small team but totally committed, often providing that classic British inn hospitality.
  • Location Quality The location is the hotel's strongest asset, sitting directly on the Market Place, minutes from the river and museums.
  • Area Vibe The location is just at the heart of old Wisbech with its lovely Georgian "Brinks" architecture, though a walk through town at night shows how dead it can be.
  • Overall Cleanliness Generally good, but in some places the carpet and fabrics are so old that they give a "tired" impression even when obviously clean.
  • Breakfast Quality Substantial, traditional pub grub. Breakfast is normally a large full English which sets you up well for the day.
